VITAL-LH2 is a collaborative R&D project focused on developing advanced technologies for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective storage of liquid hydrogen (LH2) in aviation. The project aims to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a clean fuel, a critical enabler for the decarbonization of air transport. Key objectives include the validation of an innovative LH2 tank concept, the development of advanced modelling and simulation tools, and the exploration of next-generation nanocellular polymer insulators. AMTEC plays a leading role in designing and executing mechanical testing methods under cryogenic conditions (20K), essential for ensuring structural integrity and performance at extreme temperatures. The consortium comprises ACITURRI, AMTEC, CELLMAT, and HIPERBARIC, supported by top-tier research institutions.
This project has received funding from the NextGenerationEU program of the European Union and the program MISIONES 2024 from CDTI, under the Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia of the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades.
